"...so start for the top and say I can!" Born into slavery on a southwest Missouri farm, George W. Carver overcame great adversity and tremendous odds to triumph as a distinguished educator, artist, musician, humanitarian, Christian and most notably a world-renowned scientist. As an active partner with the National Park Service since the park's dedication in 1953, the George Washington Carver Birthplace District Association (CBA) continues to perpetuate the legacy of Dr. Carver. Through memberships, the Carver Birthplace District Association, a 501 c3 non-profit organization, assists in advancing the scientific, historic, educational and interpretive programs at George Washington Carver National Monument. This National Monument serves as a fitting and appropriate memorial to the life and legacy of Dr. Carver. Most activities and services at the Monument are provided free of charge and include ranger led programs, hiking trails, 1881 Carver House tours, museum exhibits, school programs, park films, interactive discovery area, Visitor Center, and much more. The Monument is the birthplace and childhood home of Dr. Carver and is an inspiration to all who visit. Visitors see and learn about the many struggles Dr. Carver overcame during the post-Civil War era, the countless highly praised accomplishments, and the spiritual motivators that led him on a life long pilgrimage of self-sacrifice for the betterment of all mankind.
